Xavier aims to gain momentum in clash against Georgetown
xavier is gearing up for a game against Georgetown on Friday night, and they're still in search of consistency. The matchup takes place in Cincinnati as part of the Big East Conference. Throughout the season, the Musketeers, with a roster that includes 10 new players, have been striving for steady performance while also dealing with the absence of Zach Freemantle and Jerome Hunter due to injuries.

In their recent victory over Butler, Xavier faced some ups and downs. They managed to overcome their inconsistent and sloppy defense by executing runs of 8-0, 16-0, and 13-0. Although they held a 14-point lead at halftime, the Bulldogs made a strong comeback, staging a 20-3 surge to take a 60-58 lead with 11 minutes remaining. However, Xavier responded with 13 unanswered points and ultimately took the lead for good.

Xavier coach Sean Miller acknowledged that his team doesn't possess the ability to maintain high intensity and focus for the entire 40 minutes of play. He emphasized the importance of the team's starters and leaders in setting the tone for both halves. While they may not be able to sustain maximum effort throughout, Miller believes in the team's potential and the discussions they have.

Desmond Claude had an outstanding performance, scoring a career-high 26 points, including 14 in the second half. Dayvion McKnight also contributed with 20 points, shooting 7-of-12 from the field.

On the other side, the Georgetown Hoyas have been struggling, losing five out of their last six games. In their recent matchup against then-No. 4 ranked UConn, they suffered an 80-67 defeat. Despite the loss, Hoyas coach Ed Cooley expressed pride in his team's fight and resilience. Facing what he considers the best team in the country, Cooley acknowledged UConn's strengths and the challenges they present. He saw improvement in his team's performance and their ability to keep pushing forward.

Supreme Cook led the Hoyas with 18 points and 13 rebounds, securing his fourth double-double of the season. Jayden Epps contributed 16 points, although on 19 shot attempts, while Jay Heath scored 13 points on 4-of-8 shooting. Dontrez Styles rounded out the double-figure scorers for Georgetown with 11 points.

Both Xavier and Georgetown enter this matchup with their own aspirations and challenges. Xavier seeks consistency and stability, while Georgetown aims to bounce back from recent losses. It promises to be an intriguing game as both teams strive to make their mark in the Big East Conference.
