The Grand Ole Opry has issued an apology following the uproar caused by Elle King's cringe-worthy performance during a Dolly Parton tribute on Friday night. In what should have been a family-friendly show, King, who admitted to being "fucking hammered," used explicit language, engaged in awkward banter with hecklers, and struggled to recall the Parton song she was slated to sing for the birthday tribute.
The Opry expressed remorse for the incident, stating, “We deeply regret and apologize for the language that was used during last night’s second Opry performance,” through their account on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday.
While the dissatisfaction among country fans was palpable, the apology was prompted by a specific attendee's account of the Ryman Auditorium performance. The attendee wrote on X, “Elle King ruined the night with her horrible, drunk, and profane performance. Dolly Parton would’ve been mortified. For our first time at the Opry, it was a shame we all had to witness that… It was such a disappointment to spend $300 on tickets for a show where one of the artists ruined an entire night.” The incident has sparked a wave of disappointment and frustration among fans who expected a more enjoyable and respectful tribute to the legendary Dolly Parton.
